Hearing On Morgan Wallen’s Chair-Throwing Arrest Pushed To December

    Ain’t that some…

Morgan Wallen is going to have to wait a little longer to have his day in court, after his hearing on three felony charges was pushed back to December.

Of course it all stems from his arrest back in April, when the country superstar was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct for (allegedly) throwing a chair off the rooftop of Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s.

The chair reportedly landed near two police officers, and the Metro Nashville Police Department said at the time of the arrest that security footage confirmed it was Morgan who threw it from the sixth story rooftop bar.

Morgan’s first hearing was back on May 3 in general sessions court here in Davidson Country (which is essentially magistrate court, where misdemeanor and felony preliminary hearings take place). The singer wasn’t required to be at that hearing, and no plea was entered on his behalf, with his next court date scheduled for August 15.

But today, that court date was pushed back to December 12.

It’s not clear why the date was moved, and whether it was continued at the request of the prosecutors or Morgan’s defense team. But his attorney, Worrick Robinson, had previously said that his client would be present at the next hearing.

The case is unlikely to be resolved on that date, unless the attorneys are able to reach some sort of plea agreement. Should Morgan choose to go to trial on the charges, his case would be heard in circuit court since he’s facing felony charges. He wouldn’t face a trial in general sessions court, which is where his December hearing is scheduled, so unless the charges are amended to misdemeanors before December, he won’t be going to trial this year.

There’s a possibility that we find out in December whether there will be a preliminary hearing on the charges, or if Morgan chooses to waive his right to a preliminary hearing, whether the case will be moved to circuit court for a trial.

Morgan hasn’t spoken much about the arrest publicly (probably at the advice of counsel), but he did release a statement apologizing for his behavior:

“I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.

I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change. -MW”

Morgan is currently on his massive One Night At A Time tour, which is scheduled to wrap up in October with two nights in Charlotte that were rescheduled from last month.
