Dwayne "The Fisherman & Merle Haggard Fan" Johnson. We'll call him by that nickname today since he posted this video to his social media showing himself singing a little Merle Haggard tune while he was ripping lips. Johnson is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, but just like us normal folk, he likes to unwind sometimes by wetting a few lines - while singing some classic Haggard. "The Rock" posted a clip from his Virginia farm, where he's been raising bass, carp, sunfish and trout for years, and periodically posting big catch footage. This time around, he reeled in a massive bass that he estimated to be around four to five to eight pounds. As you'll see, he couldn't quite tell after he hauled the big catch out of the water:
"Well it was worth. Got my shoes wet, but she's beautiful. She's about maybe four or five pounds I'd say. I don't know, maybe eight? My math is off... every time I catch a fish my math is off." And while Johnson was reeling in a big fish , he was also softly singing a big hit of Merle Haggard's. The wrestler-turned-actor was working through Haggard's 1983 hit "That's The Way Love Goes" when he reeled in the big ol' bass. "The Rock" pointed out both in the video and in the caption of the post that singing the track helped him catch the fish: "She was fiery, but “that’s the way love goes." And she loves me singing Merle.. my kinda gal."

"That's The Way Love Goes" was actually the title track of Haggard's 1983 album, which was the thirty-eighth studio project he had released at that point. It's actually a cover of a Lefty Frizzell song that was first recorded by Johnny Rodriguez, but Merle certainly made the song feel as though it was his own. Upon its release, it rocketed to the top spot on the country singles charts. It was later recorded by Ronnie Dunn for his 2020 release Re-Dunn , and Alan Jackson covered the song on his stellar 2021 album, Where Have You Gone
. And it's as good of a listen to day as it was back then: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhaju2pwrJg And before I go, I wanted to include a little P.S. in regards to Dwayne Johnson's video. If you're like me, you are probably wondering why "The Rock" stepped into his pond to retrieve the fish he had just reeled in. You even hear him say this before he gets down into the water, and later mentions that he had to get his shoes wet: "Might have to get in." Now why does Johnson step down into the pond? Other than the fact that he has so much money, he could just have another pair shipped to his house probably within the hour, it's likely that whoever he's worked with to stock and nurture his pond has told him to not rip the fish out of the water on the line. I hope that's the case, because he does it almost every single time he posts a fishing video: https://www.instagram.com/p/CuZtTX2R_cd/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CuJBO14gjb8/
