What did we do to deserve a George Strait and Chris Stapleton collaboration? If you were wondering how a song would sound with one of the greatest country artists of all time singing alongside one of the most iconic voices in all of music, the answer is
pretty damn good . And George Strait doesn't just sing with anybody. He's been known to value solos rather than features throughout his career, but country music fans sure are glad that he and Chris Stapleton finally joined together for this one. The pair have played "Honky Tonk Hall of Fame" together a couple of times over the past year as they've toured together, and the studio version of the song was finally released today. The track was put out along with Strait's 31st album, Cowboys and Dreamers - his first project in five years. Make sure to also check out the "King of Country's" cover of Waylon Jennings' "Waymore's Blues" when you get the chance, which is also featured on the new album. For right now though, we're focusing in on "Honky Tonk Hall of Fame." If I'm being honest, I'm a little surprised a song of that title hasn't already been brought into the country music world. Now that it has though, I'm glad it was Strait and Stapleton together that brought it to life. Written by Chris Stapleton himself, along with Jameson Clark and Timothy James, the upbeat song does a great job of transporting the listener right into the very honky tonk that's being sung about. Stapleton and Strait trade verses, then come together for choruses that describe the beloved bar that is so frequently visited by the song's subject(s), they'll one day have their star put up in the Honky Tonk's Hall of Fame:
"You'll probably find a picture of me sippin' on my liquor If you look up a world-class fool And I'll say it once again, I'm the best that's ever been At drinkin' doubles up on this stool Well, go on, you can shake my hand Everybody's gonna know my name When they hang my star behind the bar At the Honky Tonk Hall of Fame." All in all, it's all you could ask for from a Strait and Stapleton collaboration. They opted to throw it back a bit with the song's sound and storytelling, and you won't find too many people that are upset about that. Strait still sounds as good as ever, and obviously, Stapleton knocked his portions of the song out of the park. It's great to have a new album from country music legend, and it's even
better that Strait decided to tag-team "Honky Tonk Hall of Fame" with none other than Chris Stapleton. Take a listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UubivuLNB9c
