According to the latest news release on Monday, July 8th, 2024, “the victim Nurhusen Hamid (pictured below) was working as a mobile mechanic on the Advanced Auto Parts parking lot located at 6300 New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, Montgomery County, Maryland. An unknown suspect approached the victim and shot at him striking him. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect fled the parking lot on foot onto Eastern Avenue and entered a waiting white in colored SUV then fleeing the area into the District of Columbia on New Hampshire Avenue.

House Fire Likely Caused by Discarded Smoking Materials, Resulting in $250,000 in Damage
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were dispatched for a house fire in the 900blk of N. Stonestreet in Rockville at approximately 12:57am on Monday, July 8. According to MCFRS Spokesperson David Pazos, when crews arrived they found fire on the outside of the home, which forced the occupants to jump from their deck to escape. The fire was deemed accidental, likely caused by discarded smoking materials, with damages estimated at approximately $250,000.
Carjacking down in DC as officials vow to prosecute juvenile offenders as adults
WASHINGTON - Carjackings are down 78% across the District, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves. He says there were 31 carjackings in the District last month compared to 140 carjackings in June 2023. Graves blames juveniles for "turbocharging" the rate of carjackings and vows to continue to charge 16- and 17-year-olds as adults.
