Fall Recreation Registration Opens Aug. 12
County residents can register for most fall programs and activities starting Monday, Aug. 12, at 6:30 a.m. Registration for Bone Builders, Day Trippers, and Senior Outdoor Adventures in Recreation (SOAR) begins at 9 a.m. New this fall, registration for aquatic programs and activities begins a day later, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 a.m.
Hyattsville Man Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on I-695 Near Stevenson Road
Early Thursday morning, a fatal collision occurred on the I-695 outer loop near Stevenson Road, claiming the life of a man. Maryland State Police were alerted about a driver traveling in the wrong direction on the highway which led to the multi-vehicle crash and subsequent closure of the roadway for approximately four hours, as reported by WBALTV.

Notorious DC drug kingpin Rayful Edmond moved from prison for halfway house
WASHINGTON - Notorious D.C. drug kingpin Rayful Edmond III has been transferred to community confinement in Nashville. According to officials, Edmonds was transferred on Wednesday, July 31, to community confinement overseen by the Federal Bureau of Prisons' Nashville Residential Reentry Management Office. This means Edmond is in either home confinement or a Residential Reentry Center or a halfway house.

Verizon Frontline supports wildfire response efforts in Oregon and Washington
HARDMAN, Ore. — The Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team recently deployed in support of more than 6,800 first responders battling 15 wildfires in Oregon and Washington. This deployment marks the team’s latest response to a request for support from public safety agencies engaged in emergency response operations. In the first seven months of 2024, the Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team has responded to nearly 800 such requests from more than 400 different agencies in 44 states.
