WHITESTOWN, Ind. — Officials with the Whitestown Police Department released information regarding Wednesday afternoon’s road rage shooting that left a person in critical condition and impacted traffic for multiple hours.

According to previous reports, officials closed I-65 near the 130.5 mile marker Wednesday afternoon. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office originally said a portion of the highway was closed because of “police activity.” Later that afternoon, Whitestown police said the road was closed because of a road rage shooting.

According to a news release from the Whitestown Police Department, a semi truck ran off I-65 northbound near the 130.5 mile marker at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. After the truck came to rest on Perry Worth Road, a deputy with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office was notified by witnesses that the driver had been shot.

Witnesses told law enforcement officials on scene that the semi had been involved in a road rage incident. A vehicle, described by police as a black sedan passenger car that was driven by a woman, was reportedly brake checking multiple semi trucks while traveling north on I-65.

The driver of the semi truck that ran off the road was transported to a nearby trauma center in critical but stable condition. Whitestown police are continuing to investigate the incident.

“WMPD is tirelessly investigating this incident and would like to request that if the public has any information, footage or tips that would assist in the investigational process to please contact our Criminal Investigations Division at (317) 769-2677 or the Boone County Communications Center at (765) 482-1412,” the release said.
