New Veteran’s health care clinic opens on the Redstone Arsenal

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — In a world where healthcare benefits and services for veterans are lacking, Huntsville is taking a step in the right direction to help our nation’s heroes.

They are celebrating the grand opening of the new “VA Clinic” at Fox Army Health Center on the Redstone Arsenal.

Lieutenant Colonel Deepak Mathew is the commander of Fox Army Health Center and he says Huntsville’s growth is the reason behind this expansion

“The VA community and their growth in Huntsville is, you know, unprecedented, it’s greater than the nation,” said Lt. Col. Mathew.

Dr. Ladi Kukoyi is the Birmingham VA health care system’s CEO, he says that in the past, local military personnel had to drive to Birmingham for appointments and to receive care.

“The veteran population growth in Huntsville has been amazing, such that we’re not able to provide all the care we want to,” Dr. Kukoyi said. “This allows us to move some of our care off-site, and we are continuing to look for additional locations.”

The hope is to give veterans timely care with the best services possible.

“So, the hope is our burgeoning veteran population to have the space to be able to give them timely care or where they deserve it right now in the space that we have,” said Dr. Kukoyi. “It’s impossible to meet the demand. So, right, what we’re doing is expanding our supply so we can meet the demand.”

They say veterans and the military community’s health is their number one priority.
