    Water buffalo seen wandering near Pleasant Hill

    PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — Pleasant Hill PD reported a water buffalo wandering through Pleasant Hill Saturday morning.

    Around 10 a.m. on Saturday Pleasant Hill Police Officers were called to 2060 NE 56th Street on reports of an animal in the roadway. The animal was identified as a water buffalo that had escaped its owner’s property.

    During their attempts to apprehend the water buffalo the animal became aggressive and fled the area. The buffalo headed south towards Hickory Boulevard, venturing closer to the city. Pleasant Hill PD fired one shotgun round, striking and injuring the animal.

    The buffalo continued traveling south and was last seen in Little Fourmile creek near Scott Avenue and Oakwood Boulevard.

    Pleasant Hill PD was assisted by the Animal Rescue League and Des Moines Animal Control.

    For their safety, if anyone see’s the water buffalo they should not approach it.
