WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The new school year is right around the corner, so that means WFISD Foundation’s Project Back to School is gearing up for its annual roundup.

The Roundup will be at the Roy Clymer Exhibit Hall on August 3rd, from 9 a.m. to noon, providing school supplies to thousands of children in the Wichita Falls area.

Children who qualify for free or reduced lunch in Wichita Falls or Cityview ISD from pre-k to grade 12 will receive a backpack and school supplies, ensuring each student can walk into their classrooms prepared for the school year.

“It’s not okay for a student to walk into school and not have the things that they need to succeed,” said Project Back to School volunteer Seonaid Acevedo. “It takes a lot, but if we can just provide backpacks and supplies, that’s the right step in a direction to help them succeed.”

If you’re new to the district, you can sign up for the event and still get supplies as long as you have the required paperwork. To receive supplies, guardians must bring proof that their child qualifies for free or reduced lunch, such as a Medicare or Lonestar card or a letter from the school.

“Immunizations will also be provided, so the county health district will be out if your kids need those shots before school,” Acevedo said. “They may not like them, but they can come out here and get them when they pick out their backpack.”

With the help of the community rallying around this program, Project Back to School continues to ensure every child gets the tools they need to succeed.
