    WPD announces arrest after fatal hit-and-run

    The Wichita Police Department has arrested a 19-year-old Wichita woman, after the investigation of a fatality hit-and-run. Sunday morning, June 23rd at 3:16 a.m., Wichita Police officers responded to a vehicular collision at the intersection of Central and Mclean. Upon arrival, officers discovered a dark-colored car involved in the incident. The passenger, identified as 28-year-old Jaz Brooks, was found trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced deceased. The driver of the car received an evaluation by EMS for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene.

    Preliminary investigations revealed that a black pickup had collided with the Saturn on its passenger side and fled prior to law enforcement's arrival. Officers were able to locate the suspect and the vehicle several hours later. The suspect was arrested and booked for Fatality Hit-and-Run. The circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation. According to the District Attorney’s office, the suspect will will not be named until formal
    charges are filed. This is the Wichita's 18th traffic fatality for the year.
