WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The VA Regional Office will be on the move to accommodate the latest growth of the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center.

The new location, which is at 9111 E. Douglas Ave. , adds around 10,000 square feet for usage of new interview rooms and provides technological resources that will help keep veterans working in Wichita.

“This creates an opportunity to attract and retain people to work here, but importantly, it speeds up the process and makes it more efficient, and veterans receive the benefits they’re entitled to,” Sen. Jerry Moran said.

U.S. Marine from Newton deployed overseas twice during the war in Afghanistan

The new facility will also be where veterans who have filed a claim through the PACT Act can get help and treatment for bad health conditions that have occurred while out serving, especially those who have been exposed to toxic elements from being in burn fields overseas.

“Veterans who have a claim, who have a concern, who are confronted with a condition that they generated during their service, that we can work that through with them, and get them benefits for those conditions,” Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs Dennis Mcdonough said.

Around 17,000 Kansas veterans have filed a claim through the PACT Act, and Secretary McDonough says they encourage as many veterans to file a claim. On Aug. 15, there will be a claims and outreach event in Hays for veterans. The goal is to try and adjudicate and have decisions made on those claims right then and there for veterans.
