WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A dog named Venus visited KSN News on Thursday during the Pet Project segment on KSN News at Noon. She’s currently at the Kansas Humane Society until someone adopts her.

Kansas Humane Society’s Director of Communications Jordan Bani-Younes said Venus is about four and a half years old.

“She’s very smiley, very cuddly,” he said. “She’s just one of the sweetest girls we’ve had in a while.”

He doesn’t know much about her history because she was a stray, but he said she’s very well-behaved, shows signs of being potty trained, and knows how to sit on command.

“We love her a lot,” Bani-Younes said. “We hope she finds a good home.”

KSN asked for advice about pets and the July heat.

Bani-Younes said the best thing pet owners can do is keep pets indoors when it is hot.

“If it’s too hot for you, it’s going to be too hot for your pet, so just pick those cooler times of days to take your walks, in the morning or later in the evening,” he said. “If you place the back of your hand on the pavement, if you can’t keep it there for five seconds, it’s going to be way too hot for your dog.”

    He also said:

    • Don’t leave dogs in hot cars.
    • Keep pets shaded or indoors.
    • Provide pets with a lot of cool water.

Bani-Younes invited people to Furry Film Friday, which happens tomorrow, Friday, July 19. Parents who register in advance can drop off children, first through fifth grades, to watch the movie “Up” at the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St . The event runs from 6-8:30 p.m. The $20 per child includes ice cream, pizza, and a movie. The event is limited to 25 children.
