New Wichita restaurant opening this week is known for something new to Wichita: egg toast

A new restaurant that will officially open on Thursday in Eastgate Shopping Center, Kellogg and Rock Road, specializing in something new to Wichita: egg toast.

Two local businessmen are teaming up to open a Wichita location of Oh K-Dog , a small chain that serves Korean corn dogs, slushies, smoothies, mochi doughnuts, and its popular egg toast.

Wichita’s Oh K-Dog is only the 47th in the chain. It sits in between Boot Barn and HobbyTown in the center, which is also home to popular boba tea shop Feng Cha .

Though Wichita has become used to Korean corn dogs over the past few years, Oh K-Dog’s egg toast is something that the owners — who prefer not to be named — said drew them to the chain.

It features a thick-sliced cut of Texas-toast, either garlic or plain flavored, that’s slit open at the top then stuffed with scrambled eggs and things like bacon, ham, cheese and avocado. There’s also an egg toast made with teriyaki chicken.

Customers also can get tteokbokki, which is a bowl featuring a rice cake cooked in a gochujang sauce then topped with a Korean fish cake and hot dog links.

The menu also features lots of different Korean corn dogs, which are made with a rice-flour instead of a corn-meal batter and topped with things like potato cubes. Inside the corn dogs is a Nathan’s hot dog, a hunk of mozzarella cheese or both. A few also come with a sweet potato filling.

The mochi doughnuts also are made with rice flour and are a chewy dessert fried in segments that are easy to pull apart.

One item that’s not on the menu yet but will be in a few months: bung-eo-ppang, which is a fish-shaped pastry that comes with a choice of filling: red bean, custard, Nutella, taro or mozzarella cheese.

The owners said that all the items on the menu are things usually sold on the streets of Korea as snacks. A neon sign on the wall of the restaurant, which features lots of seating, reads “Korean soul food.”

Oh K-Dog’s dining room has a giant television screen playing K-pop videos, and the walls are decorated with colorful graphics. People order their food at the counter.

Starting on Thursday,the restaurant’s hours will be 11 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.

Oh K-Dog will be open only to walk-in customers when it first gets started but will eventually sign up with local food delivery services, its owners said.
