Hughesville, Pa. — A woman took cash from an elderly person and tried using the victim's bank account to transfer money to pay on a loan, police say.

Police said a relative of the victim discovered Dominique Shareese Jones of Williamsport took $139 from a purse, according to the complaint. The accuser’s bank also sent a notice claiming the 31-year-old Jones also attempted to make a $792 online payment on a loan using the victim's account, Trooper Edward Gensel said.

Jones allegedly told a relative of the victim who has power of attorney she was working as a caretaker in an effort to pay off loans.

Troopers interviewed the accuser at the end of May. She claimed to have $140 in her purse when Jones was at the hone. After Jones left, there was allegedly only a dollar in the purse.

Jones is being charged with theft by unlawful taking, financial exploitation of an older adult, receiving stolen property, and access to a device issued to another user without permission. She is free on $15,000 unsecured bail.
