Williston man dead after officer-involved shooting

WILLISTON, ND ( KXNET ) — A man was killed after a violent encounter with law enforcement on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 23.

According to the Williston Police Department, at approximately 12:47 p.m., officers responded to a call near the 1300 Block of 18th Street West after receiving reports of an individual armed with a knife.

During an encounter with the suspect, the department states that an officer discharged their weapon, which resulted in the individual (Matthew Austin Gullo, a 31-year-old man from Williston) being shot. Officers performed emergency measures on-scene, and the man was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the Williston PD is working with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations on the case. Further updates will be released as they become available.
