A familiar face has officially taken the reins as the Wilson County Board of Elections’ leader. Tasha Bell was sworn in Tuesday as county elections director.

Bell, formerly a Wilson County Board of Elections deputy director, has served as interim director since April when Rená Morris retired from the role.

“We’re all proud of Tasha,” board Chair Chip Futrell said after swearing her in. “She’s a wonderful person, and I think she will do a wonderful job.”

Bell was surrounded by family members, friends and precinct workers for Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony.

“I’m honored and grateful,” Bell later said. “I look forward to making a positive impact in my new role. I’m thankful for this incredible opportunity.”

The Wilson County Board of Elections voted unanimously last week to hire Bell for the position.

“You’ve worked hard for this agency for 14 years,” Futrell told her. “We know that you will work hard. We have so much faith in you.”

Bell, who was hired in 2010, has served as the agency’s deputy director since 2011. She got her start in election work as an assistant in Wilson Precinct B in 1999, then served as a chief judge for Precinct N in 2007.
