Rattler bites rare but Winona hospital ready
WINONA, Minn. – Nobody in recent memory recalls any rattlesnake bite cases at the Winona hospital, but the pharmacy director, Jill Ender, says the emergency room is prepared. Antivenom serum can be flown from Mayo Clinic Rochester on short notice, she said. There usually is a six-hour window to treat a bite, Ender said. Because of the rarity of bites and a short expiration of the antivenom, the hospital doesn’t stock its own supply.
Winona considers new secondary housing rules
The Winona Planning Commission is continuing to discuss potential changes to make it easier to develop accessory dwelling units (ADUs), which are secondary, smaller housing units on existing residential lots, such as mother-in-law suites or an over-the-top garage apartment. City staff suggested allowing ADUs on smaller lots and allowing them to forgo the 30% rule, similar to short-term rentals, opening up the potential for more ADUs throughout the community.
