HLWW School Board emergency meetin g minutes 6/24/24
The Monday, June 24, 2024 School Board Work Session meeting of Independent School Dist. #2687 (Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted) was called to order at 6:32 pm. by Chairperson Heuer. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Heuer, Koch, Bravinder, Marketon, Mulvihill and Puncochar; absent: Borrell. Also present were Superintendent Nate Walbruch and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
Orono speech team boasts middle school national champ
Oliver Berg, a seventh-grader from Orono’s Speech Team, was crowned Middle School National Champion in Storytelling at the National Speech and Debate Association’s 2024 National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. Berg, a student at Delano Middle School, competes on the Orono team as a result of a cooperative agreement between the Orono and Delano school districts which allows Delano students in grades 7-12 to compete on the Orono Speech team, since Delano does not have a speech program. Berg had a stellar first season, placing 8th in the State tournament in Creative Expression this season. Berg is Orono’s second Middle School National Champion in Storytelling in the last three years; Maya Haugen won that title in 2022. Also competing at Nationals were Madeleine Dore in Humorous Interpretation, McKenna Monger in Dramatic Interpretation, and Maya Haugen in Storytelling, a supplemental category. Both Monger and Haugen broke to Octafinals.

Lester Prairie School Board minutes 5/20/24
Monday, May 20, 2024, the Regular School Board meeting of the Lester Prairie ISD 0424 called to order at 5:45 pm. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Hentges, B. Heimerl, Engen, R. Heimerl, and Stifter-Knoll. Administration present were: Dr. Melissa Radeke, Mike Lee, Ross Scheevel, Alice Daak Guests: Austen Neaton/Herald Journal and Gary Krause.
School construction project moving along
Maple Lake Public Schools HVAC construction project is on schedule with completion expected sometime in August. The pictures above show some of the progress being made. According to an update provided by Supt. Mike Rowe, 85 % of the lighting is installed at the elementary school as is 85 % of the grid; the rooftop and air handling units are 75 percent set; the media center ductwork is complete along with surrounding offices; duct cleaning in the elementary school is done and piping in the elementary school is 90 percent complete. In the coming weeks crews will work on installing ductwork in the elementary and district offices; installing structural steel in the district office, media center and high school mezzanine; pouring the chiller pad, sidewalk and housekeeping pad and setting the rest of the rooftop units.
