Naming ceremony in Minneapolis for The Paul D. Wellstone Federal Building
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – A historic building that covers one square block in downtown Minneapolis is now known as The Paul D. Wellstone Federal Building. Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith helped pass the bi-partisan bill renaming the Federal Building in honor of the late Senator Wellstone. They took part in a naming ceremony Tuesday with the Wellstone family and other friends and colleagues.

School construction project moving along
Maple Lake Public Schools HVAC construction project is on schedule with completion expected sometime in August. The pictures above show some of the progress being made. According to an update provided by Supt. Mike Rowe, 85 % of the lighting is installed at the elementary school as is 85 % of the grid; the rooftop and air handling units are 75 percent set; the media center ductwork is complete along with surrounding offices; duct cleaning in the elementary school is done and piping in the elementary school is 90 percent complete. In the coming weeks crews will work on installing ductwork in the elementary and district offices; installing structural steel in the district office, media center and high school mezzanine; pouring the chiller pad, sidewalk and housekeeping pad and setting the rest of the rooftop units.

Lakers tied at fifth as regular season nears end
The Maple Lake Lakers are on the home stretch of the North Star League regular season, which officially comes to an end on Sunday, July 21. The Lakers currently sit in a tie for fifth with Litchfield and with only a few games to go a lot could happen in the standings, making the final three games critical. Hutchinson and Buffalo are separated by only one game at the top of the standings and play each other twice before the season is over with Delano hot on their tails for the top spot. The bottom-five teams are likely set unless Howard Lake gets hot and jumps Dassel-Cokato. Once the dust settles on the regular season and the play-in tournament the remaining eight teams will face off in Dassel to determine who goes to state.
Man Witnessed Cutting Copper Pipes and Wiring in St. Cloud
The St. Cloud Police Department are reporting a burglary on the 400 block of 1st Avenue South. Alicia Mages from Tri-County Crime Stoppers says a witness interrupted a bearded white male inside a vacant building cutting copper pipes and wiring. She says the suspect fled the scene before police arrived. The suspect was further described as wearing a blue shirt with dark colored shorts and left the area in a maroon car.

Three Minnesota Men Sentenced For Illegally Selling Firearms On Social Media
(KNSI) – A sting operation based in St. Cloud busts three Minnesota men using social media to traffic machine guns. The terms range from just over a year to about eight years in prison. A press release notes that 19-year-old Rafael Carter Wesley, 21-year-old Avont Akira Drayton, and 22-year-old Kyrees Darius Johnson will be subject to supervised release once their sentences have been completed.
