WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WJBF) – A young man is behind bars for allegedly stealing his mother’s car…again; and striking a police office with it.

Incident reports say Marlon Jones’ mom called law enforcement that her son stole her Dodge Charger again. She allegedly told police he has taken it many times before.

On August 27th, police saw the Charger leave the Magnolia Acres complex in Waynesboro and began to follow. Law enforcement tried to stop the vehicle with lights and sirens, but a chase ensued.

The 19-year-old driver, identified as Jones, made several turns before jumping the curb and driving behind homes headed toward Freedom Way. At that point, police drew their weapons attempting to get Jones to stop the car.

Jones slowed the Charger and one law enforcement officer approached the vehicle. At that time Jones allegedly accelerated, hitting the police officer. Once the suspect stopped the car, officers began banging on the windows to get the suspect out.

Jones was arrested and taken into custody.

He has been charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, and Aggravated Assault.

    This officer is OK.
