KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Dozens of local Democrats attended a “Kingsport for Kamala” rally and march on Saturday morning at Glen Bruce Park.

Along with backing Democratic presidential nominee and current Vice President Kamala Harris, those attending voiced support for other Democrats running for local, state and national offices.

Organizers said the event aimed to familiarize the community with local Democratic names running for a government position.

“There is support in Kingsport for a two-party system, that neighbors are neighbors, and we are trying to support a better Kingsport, a better Sullivan County for all of us,” said Chair of Sullivan County Democratic Party Terry Marek.

Attendees marched from Glen Bruce Park down Broad Street and back, where delegates who spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago recently were set to meet and address party members.

Those running for local offices also had an opportunity to campaign. Marek said the Sullivan County Democratic Party has grown in numbers since Vice President Harris announced her campaign for president.
