Extreme heat and widespread storms: TIMING

(WJW) – Tuesday will be the hottest day this week. Temperatures will top 90° Tuesday afternoon, with heat indices near 100°.

Several Northeast Ohio counties will be under a heat advisory from noon on Tuesday until 8 p.m. Those counties include Ashland, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, Richland, and Sandusky . Several are also under an air quality alert including Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties.

The extreme heat has caused some local schools to close .

Locations with the highest heat index will be the western half of northern Ohio.

A stalled front will trigger multiple clusters of storms. These will be fast-moving over the next 36 hours. The movement will be from the NW to the SE.

Right now, it looks like the highest chance of rain and storms will come Tuesday night after midnight into early Wednesday morning. Some of the storms could be strong and produce gusty winds and locally heavy rain.

Wednesday afternoon storm coverage will be less.

There will be another spike in the heat and humidity on Friday. Scattered storms late Friday into early Saturday. This stretch of hot and humid weather will come to an end by the Labor Day holiday weekend.
