YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Along Interstate 680 in the Youngstown area, the grass is as tall as three feet.

After all the rain in April and early May, the grass has grown at a quick pace.

The area is maintained by the Ohio Department of Transportation. ODOT Spokesman Ray Marsch said crews have been busy on Interstate 76 and Route 11, but the grass grows too fast.

“Our crews have been active over these past couple weeks mowing along our roadways,” Marsch said. “The grass is rapidly growing all throughout the region in Ohio. So, it takes time for our crews to get all of the areas.”

Marsch said crews will be in the Mahoning area Tuesday and the rest of the week cutting grass along I-680. He reminds drivers to give them space to work.

“If you come across our crews in a two-lane roadway, it’s imperative that you slow down, you move over for them, give them plenty of room to work if they’re mowing along the side of the road,” Marsch said.
