GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) — A battle over dog poop in Girard ended with police finding a man with an active warrant.

Officers were called just before 3 p.m. Sunday to a house on Morris Avenue. When they arrived, a neighbor told them they found several piles of dog poop in their yard and that their neighbor allows their dog to defecate there.

The neighbor said he gathered up the poop and put it in the dog owner’s driveway next door.

While police were talking with the neighbor, Anthony Latimer came out of the house next door and “immediately became defensive,” the report stated.

Latimer told police he stepped in the dog poop in the driveway and reviewed his surveillance camera which showed his neighbor putting it there, the report stated. At that time, Latimer said he picked up the poop and put it back in his neighbor’s yard. That’s when police were called.

While police reviewed Latimer’s identification, it was discovered that he had an active warrant out of Girard for a traffic violation.

During this time, other members of Latimer’s household were screaming at police and causing a ruckus, according to the police report.

Officers said Latimer was screaming inside the cruiser through gritted teeth and banged his head on the partition, causing a cut on his forehead that needed stitches. He was then taken to the hospital to be treated.

Latimer appeared in Girard Municipal Court on Tuesday on a charge of failure to appear after receiving a citation in April for driving an ATV on the road. Bond was set at $2,500. He will be back in court on Sept. 18.
