Senior Bowl Spotlight: Velus Jones Jr.

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — WKRG News 5 is teaming up with the Reese’s Senior Bowl this season to bring you the best high school football coverage along the Gulf Coast!

It’s well known that the Mobile-Baldwin area produces many of the National Football League’s brightest stars.

News 5 Sports will showcase that talent on Senior Bowl Spotlight each week.

This week, an extension of our Game of the Week, we’re featuring Saraland alumnus Velus Jones Jr., who is now with the Chicago Bears.

Jones was drafted in the third round out of Tennessee after playing in the 2022 Senior Bowl.

During his playing days with the Spartans, Jones was an all-state selection after posting over 1,100 receiving yards and nine touchdowns as a junior.

Jones was a four-star recruit and began his college career at the University of Southern California.

He turned heads on Thursday night in the Bears’ preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs as he rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown in his new role as running back.
