PANAMA CITY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – For the 50th anniversary of National EMS week, the lifeguard ambulance service in Panama City held a celebration at their office.

They were joined by the One Blood Bus, Bay County Animal Control, and Operation Spay Bay.

EMS week began on May 19 and wrapped up on Saturday, May 25. To go out with a bang on the last day, lifeguard ambulance operations captain, Steward Eubanks wanted to help not only people but some four-legged friends as well.

People got the opportunity to donate blood and adopt one of the cats or dogs that were available.

Free food was also on the table for the general public and first responders.

“The most important reason that we’re here today is to show our EMS employees appreciation for all that they do day in and day out. These are folks that see things, do things that no person should ever have to see or do. And they continue to do it because they love their community and they’re just phenomenal people,” Captain Stewart Eubanks said.

Eubanks says this was their first time doing a big celebration like this and he hopes to do more in the future. He along with other employees were repping t-shirts with green ribbons on them to show support and draw attention to Mental Health Awareness among EMS workers.
