FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The Wawa fever is spreading across North Carolina.

The retail store chain will open the doors of its first store in the state on Thursday along the Outer Banks in the town of Kill Devil Hills. That, according to the company, is just the beginning.

During a community meeting in Fayetteville on Wednesday at Segra Stadium, Wawa announced five locations currently under contract in Cumberland and Robeson counties that are expected to open sometime in 2025. Those locations include:

    • Raeford Road & Roxie Road in Fayetteville
    • 3901 Ramsey St. in Fayetteville
    • 6528 Rockfish Road in Fayetteville
    • Fayetteville Rd. & Jackson Ct. in Lumberton
    • 5750 Corporation Drive in Hope Mills (also the location of the first Wawa Travel Center)

By the end of 2024, the chain said it has plans to have 10 stores open and serving the areas of Kill Devil Hills, Rocky Mount, Elizabeth City, Greenville, Wilson and Goldsboro.

The year 2025 will prove to be big for the Fayetteville region as Wawa “projects to open up to 11 stores in additional counties including Robeson, Pitt, Cumberland, Onslow, Johnston, Nash, Pender, Brunswick and New Hanover.”

Talking bigger picture, the chain said it will build and open a whopping 90 locations in North Carolina over the next eight to 10 years with up to 15 stores in the Fayetteville market over the next five to eight years. To achieve their goals, Wawa said it aims to build and open six to eight stores per year.

“We were thrilled to share our ‘flight plan’ for North Carolina and provide details on locations to new areas during our three stop Community Partnership tour,” said Kim Dowgielewicz, Director of Store Operations for Wawa. “Our Community Partnership events also gave us the opportunity to meet new community members and talk a little bit about our history and what makes Wawa such an ideal fit for communities in this region. We can’t wait to open our doors to serve our new friends and neighbors!”

Each of the Wawa locations coming to the state represents an investment of more than $7 million and will employ, on average, 140 contractors and local partners to build each store.

Wawa’s expansion plans will also create thousands of new jobs and career opportunities across North Carolina. Anyone seeking more information on employment with Wawa can find more details here .
