GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — After years of departments being spread across multiple buildings, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new home building Monday.

There have been four different buildings since Sheriff Paula Dance joined the team 30 years ago but she quoted Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz” Monday, saying “There’s no place like home.”

The $17 million building is 33,000 square feet to house the county’s 150-plus employees. Sheriff Dance said it’s a place for them all to be together which is what she’s most excited about.

“Information sharing is going to be so much easier. it’s not going to be lost in transition and so, that is the biggest part of us being together, we can share that information more fluidly,” she said.

In addition to haveing all the employees under one roof, the facility has a gym and gas station for the patrol vehicles. The communications center is at the courthouse and is still transitioning over.

Sheriff Dance is hopeful to have everyone moved in and settled at the new building soon.
