Dream Job: DC 911 Callers Offered Monthly $800 Bonus For Showing Up To Scheduled Shift

Washington, DC’s 911 call center announced this week, an $800 monthly bonus for employees who show up for all of their scheduled shifts.

“Starting immediately all 911 employees who show up for all of their scheduled shifts will receive an $800 incentive for the month,” Office of Unified Communications director Heather McGaffin wrote.

As reported by NBC4 , the department hopes these bonuses will help with the center’s low staffing which is at a critical point this summer. The call center was down on staff 88% of the time, leaving 31 of 65 shifts in June and 16 of 66 shifts in May understaffed.

The agency is also battling major technical issues, which have caused the 911 system to go offline six times so far this year. This caused a major distrust in the DC community when emergency’s aren’t able to get connected to proper help via 911. “DC residents are shaken and don’t trust that there’s leadership and a clear directive to turn the agency around. That’s a huge problem” Office of Unified Communications director Heather McGaffin shared.
