KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Part of Kalamazoo’s Vine Neighborhood is under a boil water advisory after a water main break, the city said.

The break happened during water infrastructure repair on Race Street that caused a temporary loss of pressure. It prompted a boil water advisory on both sides of West Vine Street from Locust Place to the dead end of West Vine, the northwest and southwest corners of Davis Street and West Vine Street as well as both sides of Locust Place from West Vine Street to Village Street.

Kalamazoo released a map of the affected area.

Everyone in the affected area should boil their water for two minutes before consuming it. It’s safe to bathe in the water without boiling it.

Water main breaks cause a drop in pressure, which can allow bacteria to enter the system. The boil water advisory is precautionary; no bacteria had been found in the system as of Tuesday.

Authorities say tests confirming the water’s safety should be back soon. They expect to lift the advisory by Friday.
