Seattle families with young children have a new reason to look forward to the summer, with the introduction of SUN Bucks, a program providing $120 in grocery benefits per eligible child, which can be used at participating stores and farmers markets. This financial boost for groceries comes in addition to free nutritious meals offered to children and youth at over 60 locations throughout the city, a service managed by Seattle Human Services Department's Summer Food Service Program. OLYMPIA, Wash.-A Seattle plastic surgeon has been ordered to pay $5 million for illegally manipulating consumer ratings. The Washington Attorney General's Office filed the lawsuit against Allure in Dec. 2022 alleging the company artificially and illegally inflated its ratings on online platforms and forced patients to sign illegal nondisclosure agreements that prevented them from posting negative reviews.

Asylum-seekers rally for housing at vacant King County hotel amid ongoing shelter crisis
KENT, Wash. — A group of asylum-seekers held a rally Saturday and called on King County to provide housing. The group wants King County to open the former Econo Lodge hotel in Kent and allow people to live inside. About 300 people are seeking shelter. KOMO News was told the hotel is vacant. It was purchased by the county in 2020 for use as a COVID-19 patient quarantine site.

Mayor Bruce Harrell pushes forward with SCORE jail talks: Multiple people have told me that the Harrell administration has begun holding meetings with the Seattle Municipal Court (SMC), the King County Department of Public Defense, and other stakeholders to contract with South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines for more jail beds. As Publicola has reported, about six people have died at SCORE in the last year. Harrell appears to no longer be just toying with the idea, as I reported earlier this year.
