Downed Powerline Closes Off Route 1 in Caribou
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -Route 1 in Caribou was closed for a while this morning because of a downed power line. The downed line was laying in the road when Caribou police responded. The Caribou Fire Department assisted police on scene directing traffic flow through alternate routes. The road remained closed to traffic for just over an hour while the roadway was cleared of the hazard. The cause of the downed powerline is unknown, but police suspect based on the damage that the pole was struck by a vehicle. Power disruptions were limited, and Versant is currently working to replace the damaged pole, as well as checking the other poles in the area to ensure no other ones were affected. Police say there were no injuries sustained during the cleanup.
