LESAGE, WV (WOWK) — The Lesage community is still picking up the pieces after a storm ripped through the area Wednesday afternoon.

Trees knocked down power lines and blocked driveways in several spots along Big Seven Mile Road. Thursday evening, around 7 different Appalachian Power crews were running lines and repairing poles, working to get the lights back on.

Meanwhile, locals have to find ways to beat the heat until that happens and some are dealing with more than just the high temperature.

Some neighbors watched as the catastrophic event unfolded while others were surprised when they came home to the aftermath.

Laura Chapman-Adkins says “it was like a battlefield” when they got home. “There’s trees down all over the place. There are five trees on this side of my house that barely hit the corner of the house, but the rest of them are just piled up there,” Chapman-Adkins says describing the scene.

While the cleanup continues, power crews are working non-stop. Most of the homes affected by the power outages are expected to have their power restored by 6 p.m. on Friday.
