Greenup County teen dead after Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A Greenup County teenager is dead after a suspected road-rage shooting in Columbus on Tuesday.

At 8:11 p.m., Columbus police were called to the scene of a shooting on the 3000 block of Clime Road in the Riverbend area at a United Dairy Farmers gas station. Gage Anderson, 17, was found unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.

Anderson was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead around 30 minutes later.

Witnesses described to police a vehicle that had left the scene and a CPD helicopter quickly located the vehicle in question. Officers stopped the driver at the intersection of Lynward Road and Maurine Drive, where Skyler Burley, 30, was taken into custody.

Police said the shooting is believed to be about a road rage incident after the victim’s father said Burley got out of his black Kia and shot his son.

Court documents stated that Burley told police he and Anderson were exchanging words over a road rage incident and that Anderson lunged at him. Burley is claiming to have shot Anderson in self-defense.

Burley is being charged with murder and is currently in Franklin County Jail pending an arraignment hearing on Thursday morning.

Cage studied in the Greenup County High School’s Mercury Marine Small Engine Program as a Career Technical Education student, according to County Superintendent Traysea Moresea.

Superintendent Moresea said a vigil will be held at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday at the high school. It will happen after the scheduled pick-up and the FAFSA Drive that was already planned.

The superintendent said counselors will be available at the high school throughout the day for any student who needs extra support.
