WINFIELD, WV (WOWK) – Students and staff at one local school are now a little cooler. Putnam County Schools has just finished repairs on an air conditioning unit at Winfield Middle School.

According to officials with Putnam County Schools, the principal first noticed the issue in one of the classrooms the week of Aug. 5 and made a report. The unit that broke affects only one wing of the school, officials say.

PCS officials say they tried to troubleshoot the unit that same week and found an issue with the unit’s compressor. They then ordered the part needed to repair it that week.

School officials say that part came in on Friday, Aug. 23 – a day after the start of the county’s school year – but PCS needed a crane to be able to make the repair.

According to officials with the school system, the rental crane arrived at the school Tuesday and workers got to work making the repair.
