    Reignited Jackson County brush fire brought under control

    UPDATE (8:38 p.m. on August 28, 2024) — According to the Ripley Fire Department, the brush fire has been brought under control and crews are working to mop up the remaining hot areas.


    RIPLEY, WV (WOWK) — The brush fire that was extinguished in Ripley on Tuesday has reignited and spread, according to Metro 911.

    It was reported in the same area as Tuesday’s fire on Smith Road around 5:32 p.m. The fire has reportedly affected six acres of land, though it has not resulted in any injuries or structure damages so far.

    All Jackson County fire departments have been called in to assist, along with fire departments from Kanawha, Mason, Roane and Wood Counties.

    Due to dry conditions , the risk of brush fires in the region is increased.

    Tuesday’s fire saw fire crews working with neighbors to bulldoze fire lines to slow done the spread of the flames. Five acres in total were consumed before the fire was put out.
