CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — A YouTuber with almost 10 million subscribers tried breakfasts from across the nation and ranked them, and he tried what his audience said was West Virginia’s breakfast : The Buckwheat Pancake.

Joshua Weissman is a chef who has been cooking since he was three . He also has a devoted following across social media, as well as a cookbook, “ Texture Over Taste .”

Weissman and two of his pals went through all 50 states to find the best breakfast in America ( No, not the song or album ). They ranked them on a scale of S being the best, and F being the worst.

For West Virginia, his Instagram audience said buckwheat pancakes best represented the Mountain State. These pancakes are known for using buckwheat flour and having a nutty flavor. The dish is so popular in the state that there is a festival surrounding them: The Preston County Buckwheat Festival.

The three in the video, including Weissman, weren’t thrilled with the pancake, finding it fairly lackluster.

“Basically just a slightly more dense pancake,” Weissman said. Before ranking the dish, he said, “I’ll never have one again.”

The Buckwheat Pancake was placed firmly in the C tier. But what did they consider the best and the worst?

No states made it into the F tier, but five states were a D: Delaware (Scrapple), Wyoming (Chokeberry Preserves), Massachusetts (Dunkin’), Missouri (The Slinger) and Florida (Cuban Breakfast).

But seven states made their way into the S tier: Montana (Cinnamon Roll), North Dakota (Monkey Bread), Georgia (Chicken Biscuit), Hawaii (Loco Moco), Chilaquiles (Arizona), Maryland (Crab Cake Eggs Benedict) and Pennsylvania (Grilled Sticky).

After ranking the S-tier items, the best of the best was Pennsylvania with the Grilled Sticky, followed by Arizona and then Maryland.
