    Live at Midday: Distinguished Young Women of Lee County

    LEE COUNTY, Ala. ( WRBL ) — A new Distinguished Young Women (DYW) of Lee County will be named in late June.

    The scholarship program awards “women who are rising seniors in high school scholarships in the areas of scholastics, interview, self-expression, talent, and fitness,” according to DYW. Seventeen participants will be at the Opelika Performing Arts Center at Saturday, June 29 at 1 p.m.

    Last year’s winner, Cate Herring, received a total of $4,100 in scholarships from the program at a local and state level. She plans to use the money towards her education with Auburn University where she’s studying to become an attorney.

    At Auburn High School, Herring has served as president of the National Technical Honor Society, vice president of the Junior Civitan, a member of the Auburn High School Ambassadors, a member of Lee County Young Leaders, and a member of the competition team at Variations Dance Studio.
