MEMPHIS – If the Memphis Tigers are truly going to make a run at the first ever 12-team college football playoff, it’ll be less about Seth Henigan and the team’s high powered offense and much more about a Memphis defense that struggled a lot last season.

111th in the country giving up over 423 yards a game. Giving up almost 29 points a contest.

That’s why Ryan Silverfield turned to Jordon Hankins to help turn things around and why the Tigers made Kobee Minor such a priority out of the transfer portal.

Minor has played at both Texas Tech and Indiana and brings that wealth of experience to a Memphis secondary that gave up almost 270 passing yards a game last year.

    But why Memphis for Minor?

“I just saw the opportunity and ran with it. I mean, Memphis is projected to be a top team this year. So I think I really agree with that and that was something that I wanted to play for,” Minor said. “I want to play in the college football playoff and I heard Memphis is one of the top contenders for that. Really that’s what steered me this way.”
