The 21-year-old woman, identified as Asia Shell, was arraigned on several charges including carjacking, aggravated robbery, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Shell made it clear she was not happy to see our cameras in court Tuesday morning. Behind what we have blurred in this photo, was a single finger flip followed by a double.
There was also a back-and-forth with the judge.
“I want you to listen to me. We are taking this one step at a time,” said Judge Louis Montesi, Jr. “You’re shaking your head no, that’s not the way to do this.”
Recently, Shell was arrested for theft.
Bond was granted, but according to the judge, she failed to return to court, leading to arrest warrants being issued.
Despite being a woman wanted by the court, it’s alleged Shell, with the help of a 16-year-old, robbed a man at a gas station along Elvis Presley Boulevard Sunday morning.
Investigators say the 21-year-old, with her teenage accomplice, approached the victim as he was pumping gas.
The two are said to have been armed with a rifle, demanding the victim’s keys, and driving away in his Jeep.
Several hours after the carjacking, police say Shell and the 16-year-old were discovered hiding out in a storage shed.
In court, a public defender was previously appointed, but who will represent the 21-year-old in the newest case is unknown. She told the court a ‘friend-guy’ was working to hire an attorney.
“Are you asking me to hold off appointing a lawyer for you until you can talk to your ‘guy friend?'” said Judge Montesi.
As of right now, it is unclear if the juvenile could be charged as an adult.
Asia Shell is due back in court on Wednesday for a bail review hearing.
