Fall Line Trail construction begins in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Construction of the Fall Line Trail, which will connect Hanover County to Petersburg once it is completed, has reached the city of Richmond.

Construction of the trail began in Bryan Park in Richmond’s Northside on Wednesday, Aug. 28 with a groundbreaking ceremony. When completed, the trail will span 43 miles and seven central Virginia localities.

“I’m excited to be breaking ground on this game-changing asset for the Richmond region,” said Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney. “With this intentional investment, the region is solidifying itself as the premier destination for outdoor recreational activity in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Fall Line trail provides the City with another tool in the toolbox to build upon our national profile as the best place to live, do business and raise a family.”

Once completed, the 13 miles of trail will go through Richmond, connecting Lakeside Avenue to the Bellevue neighborhood across Interstate 95. The trail will connect Richmond to Chesterfield County at the southern end of the city west of I-95.

“There are so many exciting parts of the Fall Line that will be developed through the City and this celebration is a great way to kick-start that process,” said Central Virginia Transportation Authority Executive Director Chet Parsons. “We look forward to the Fall Line providing health, economic, and transportation benefits to the region for years to come.”

Construction is expected to be underway in all seven of the localities the trail goes through a year from now and the entire trail is expected to be complete in 2034.
