STATESBORO, Ga. (WSAV) — The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro is kicking off its 13th annual rodeo this weekend.

They’ve been prepping all year for their event of the season.

“This year we’ve kicked it up a notch,” said Rodeo Chairman Jonathen Bunch.

They’re adding an extra day on Thursday so that everyone has a chance to get in.

“We’ve had to turn people away at the door so this year adding that extra night hopefully we won’t run into that problem and everybody gets to come in and see a good show,” said Bunch.

He says this weekend’s shows will have everything you could want – bulls, barrels, and a new category, break-away roping, he says is sure to have guests on the edge of their seats.

“There’s people from Claxton that come, Sylvania, Millen so there’s actually a lot more local competitors than people realize,” Bunch explained.

Competitors range from Bunch’s own 6-year-old daughter and up, he says.

“It just gives them a way to compete here,” said Bunch. “This is actually on the IRPA circuit so all of the competitors will get points and money towards the world standings.”

Bunch says they’ve gotten around $51,000 in local sponsorship. He says the Kiwanis Club will use the money they get from the rodeo to support local organizations in the county.

Gates open at 5 p.m. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Bulloch County Agricultural Complex. Tickets can be bought online or at the gate. Adults are $20 and children under 14 are $15.
