DAVIDSVILLE, Pa. (WTAJ) – Last year featured a lot of firsts for Conemaugh Township as the Indians were entering their first year in the Heritage Conference under then first-year head coach Brandon Studer.

The 2023 season proved to have a learning curve for Studer and the program as the Indians finished with an 0-10 record. Conemaugh Township is losing all of its main statistical leaders, including leading passer and rusher Jon Updyke.

“We have almost everyone to lose on a couple of big guys, but we’ll be all right,” senior Luke Weber said. “(We have) a lot of guys to fill in.”

The Indians are returning nine starters from last year’s team and are bringing up a junior high class that was undefeated.

“You got to be strong, you got to be physical, but you also got to be experienced,” Studer said. “That was something that we lacked last year, and I think we have a little bit more on our side this coming season.”

It’s been eight years since Conemaugh Township has had a back-to-back winning or losing season, which leaves the Indians some work ahead of them to continue the trend this year.
