MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — More than a million dollars is about to be “lost” as three Powerball tickets in Pennsylvania are set to expire.

The three tickets are worth a total of $1.25 million and were sold in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and New Tripoli (Lehigh County).

A million-dollar ticket was sold at United Food Market on East Walnut Lane in Philadelphia for the Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023 drawing.

A $150,000 ticket was sold at Blose’s Market on Route 309 in New Tripoli for the Monday, Oct. 9, 2023 drawing.

Another unclaimed ticket worth $100,000 was sold at Rite Aid on Atwood Street in Pittsburgh for the Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023 drawing.

While some lotteries only give winners 90 or 180 days to claim their prize, Pennsylvania gives winners one full calendar year.

    What happens to unclaimed winnings?

Unclaimed winnings aren’t really lost. The money will stay in the “Lottery Fund” and be used for programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians. State law prevents the money to be used for anything else.
