CLEARFIELD, Pa. (WTAJ) – A big battle is brewing on the gridiron in Clearfield on Friday. The Bison are hosting Forest Hills in a showdown between 1-0 teams.

“We’re excited for this game,” Clearfield head coach Myles Caragein said.

Both teams have high expectations this season after both finishing with eight wins last year.

The key to keep an eye on in this matchup is the battle in the trenches. Clearfield brought back four starters on the offensive line, while Forest Hills had to replace four. Both units were off to a slow start last week but heated up over the course of week one.

“As the game went on, we were more comfortable calling plays (and) especially run plays,” Forest Hills head coach Justin Myers said. “We knew that we had some guys up front, big boys that were able to push them around a little bit.”

“The linemen did a great job. They executed like they’re supposed to and it just comes back to working hard this summer,” Caragein said. “They were in the weight room (for a) ton of hours. They communicate with each other. They learn the system and they talk to each other, and it definitely helps having a year of experience.”

Those lines were the catalysts in each team’s week one win.

Forest Hills’ Nate Cornell and Xander Richardson scored three touchdowns each and racked up more than 350 yards in their win over Greater Johnstown. On the other side, Clearfield’s Brady Collins stole the show against Tyrone with six touchdowns and more than 300 yards.

“He’s a phenomenal playmaker,” Myers said. “We kind of held him in check (last year) but then you watch my film some of the other games he’s played over the last two years, you know, like he’s the real deal. He’s a legit playmaker.”

If this game is anything like last year’s, Forest Hills won 22-13, you can expect a good one on tap.

“I think confidence is building after getting that win against Johnstown,” Myers said. “Then building this week in practice, we know we can beat anybody.”

“As there’s time on the clock, these kids are going to keep fighting,” Caragein said.
