RALEIGH, N.C. (WTNH) — A commercial flight on its way to Connecticut made an emergency landing in Raleigh Thursday morning after reports of a possible odor in the cabin, according to representatives with American Airlines.

FlightAware records show American Airlines 2392 took off from Charlotte Douglas International Airport at 7:19 a.m. and was expected to land at Bradley International Airport at 9:39 a.m.

Instead, the Boeing 738 landed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport around 8:40 a.m.

Passengers News 8 spoke to said they heard a boom and smelled smoke.

“The flight attendants, you can tell, there was something not right,” said Lisa Peterson, a passenger from Glastonbury. “The captain came on shortly thereafter and said, ‘We’re going to divert and we’ll be at the closest airport in 10 minutes.'”

Carl Peterson said that the plane started “tilting back and forth,” but landed with no problems.

ABC 11 reported the aircraft had to be towed to the gate so passengers could exit, and the runways briefly paused traffic so the plane could land. Passengers then boarded a different plane.

According to American Airlines, oxygen masks did not deploy and no injuries were reported.

American Airlines said the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected.

FlightAware says the flight was set to leave Raleigh at 12:52 p.m. and land in Connecticut around 2:32 p.m.

“Customers will continue on to BDL on a replacement aircraft shortly. We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” American Airlines said around 11:15 a.m.

    Passengers want answers.

“There was such a lack of communication,” said Lisa Boitet, a passenger from Florida. “That was the most disappointing thing, as well.”
