WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — A fourth arrest has been made in connection to the killing of a 18-year-old in Waterbury last year, according to Waterbury police.

Police said 20-year-old Jada Ellis of Waterbury was identified as an additional suspect in the homicide of Joseph Zavala in November.

She was taken into police custody in Bristol on Aug. 23 and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and weapons in a motor vehicle.

Ellis was held on a $250,000 bond pending court arraignment.

Previous arrests in this case include Terron McCray of Hartford, Duane Mercer of Waterbury, and Nigel Robinson of Waterbury. The suspects ranged from 16 to 20-year-old at the time of their arrests.

The arrests all stem from the death of Waterbury man Joseph Zavala, who police said was dropped off at Saint Mary’s Hospital around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 with a gunshot wound.

A few days later, he succumbed to his injuries.

Police in December said they believe gang activity is related to the shooting.
