The state holds its memorial ceremony days before the actual anniversary to accommodate the schedules of the victims’ family members and friends who would like to attend Connecticut’s ceremony and the annual service held at the site of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11.

The 9/11 Living Memorial features stones engraved with the names of the people with ties to Connecticut killed in the attacks.

Sherwood Island State Park served as a staging area for relief efforts following the attacks.
