MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — The Hop Brook Lake recreation area will remain closed to vehicle access for the rest of this season, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The official closing date was Sept. 8.

Officials said the decision was based on recent storms, which brough more than 8 inches of rain to the area.

Facilities will remain closed to allow USACE to cleanup the area, complete repairs, remove debris and sediment, and conduct maintenance checks.

People will still be able to use portions of the park and the trails by foot or bicycle, but they’re encouraged to use extra caution due to many washed-out areas, possible downed trees, handing limbs, debris, and saturated and slick areas.
