Bellaire’s Nelson Field gets a major lighting upgrade

Bellaire, OHIO (WTRF) – Big changes are coming to one of the area’s most iconic high school football stadiums.

For over 90 years the Bellaire Big Reds have called Nelson Field home.

Saturday afternoon football has been a tradition in the All American Town since the stadium opened the gates back in the early 1930’s. However, starting this fall, a new era will begin as many of those Saturday afternoon games will switch to Friday Night.

School officials recently announced that, for the first time, permanent lights will be installed. The lights will be the latest in a number of upgrades that have taken place at the historic stadium over the past few years.

Officials say a number of factors went into the decision to include the the lights.
